Linen or disposables?

An environmental life cycle assessment carried out by the Danish laundry association shows that using textile tablecloths is better for the environment than single-use paper tablecloths. The study assessed elements such as the production of raw materials (like cotton and polyester), manufacturing the tablecloths, as well as use and disposal. The study also covered elements such as production of detergents and transportation.

Products range from table linen, table skirting, napkins, placemats and kitchen towels, to bedspreads, sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads, blankets, towels and shower curtains.

Textile cloths which are 100% cotton, cotton/polyester or 100% polyester require less energy to produce and maintain, and create less waste than paper alternatives, thus having a lower impact on the environment.
