Press Release: ETSA Launches Groundbreaking Manifesto for a Sustainable Future in Textile Services ahead of the European Elections
Brussels, [3 May 2024] - The European Textile Services Association (ETSA) is proud to announce the launch of its visionary manifesto for the period 2024-2029, setting a bold agenda for Europe and beyond, ahead of the European Elections. As a European Commission Climate Pact Ambassador, ETSA is committed to driving forward a sustainable, skilled, and energy-efficient European economy through the vital role of Textile Services.
The manifesto delineates ETSA's strategic goal, highlighting the vital function of the textile service sector in domains including healthcare, hospitality, and processing industries. It emphasizes even more how vital our sector is to the ongoing operation of society's infrastructure, since the great majority of hospitals, eateries, and other establishments would have to close their doors in the absence of a steady supply of sanitized textiles.
The manifesto further underscores the industry's significant contribution to the European economy, with ETSA members generating over €11 billion annually and employing over 135,000 people. The document, which places a strong emphasis on sustainability, also highlights the industry's innate circularity, creative recycling techniques, and the development of sustainable practices including cutting back on energy, chemical, and water use.
In order to create a future that strikes a balance between economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion, ETSA urges European governments to acknowledge the vital contributions made by the industry and to work together. The industry's dedication to diversity, inclusivity, and the acquisition of new skills is also emphasized in the manifesto, which positions textile services as a crucial component of Europe's green transformation.
"We are at a pivotal moment for the textile service industry and for Europe," says Dr Thomas Neyers, ETSA's President. "Our manifesto is a call to action for all stakeholders to join us in shaping a future that is sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous for all", affirms, ETSA's Secretary General, Elena Lai.
The manifesto demonstrates ETSA's leadership in advancing social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and economic growth in the textile services industry. It acts as a guide for cooperation between communities, legislators, and industrial players in Europe and beyond.
