During her French Language Interview with the French magazine, Entretien Textile, the new ETSA Secretary-General Elena Lai outlined her vision for not only ETSA, but the future of the textiles industry specifically in the context of the goals the European Union has outlined regarding the European Green Deal, the European Climate Pact as well as the incoming European Textiles Strategy.
Speaking on this importance, Ms Lai said: "We are following very closely the new EU textile strategy and relevant legislation which will be revealed during 2021. With these policy mechanisms, the European Commission intends to strengthen industrial competitiveness and innovation in the sector to stimulate the European market sustainable and circular textiles, including the textile reuse market as well as the recycling of textiles."
During the interview, the ETSA Secretary General also touched on the current work ETSA members have been doing and their ability to adapt to a very dynamic situation, commenting: "ETSA members have demonstrated a capacity to engage and contribute to the reconstruction and revitalization of our sector which has been undeniable during this turbulent period of COVID-19."
