ETSA in synergy with EURATEX and others, calls for extension of consultation deadlines for ESPR delegated acts on textiles
ETSA a in coordination with EURATEX and other key industry groups, has called on the European Commission and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) to extend the deadlines for consultations on the ESPR Delegated Act on Textiles. This joint effort, led by EURATEX, includes several prominent organizations such as COTANCE, GINETEX, and the International Association for Soaps, Detergents, and Maintenance Products (A.I.S.E.), all of whom represent diverse segments of the textile value chain. Together, they are urging a more realistic timeline to ensure meaningful engagement on this landmark regulatory framework.
The paper addressing the Commission highlighted the significant challenges posed by the current deadlines. These include the technical complexity of the Task 4 report and associated documents, as well as the need for substantial internal coordination among members. We noted that the overlapping consultations on substances of concern and the LCA/LCC models add further pressure to an already tight schedule. Compounding the situation, the consultation period coincides with the holiday season, making it even harder for organizations to deliver comprehensive feedback.
This collective appeal underscores the foundational importance of the Delegated Act, which will set a precedent for future product policy frameworks under the ESPR. ETSA and its fellow signatories emphasized the need to follow Better Regulation principles to ensure the consultation process is inclusive, transparent, and effective. In the paper we argue that sufficient time is critical to reviewing the preparatory study, analyzing its far-reaching implications, and consolidating input that reflects the views of thousands of businesses across the European textile sector.
In the joint statement we proposed extending the consultation deadlines to March 2025, allowing stakeholders the time necessary to provide thoughtful and well-informed feedback. By partnering with EURATEX and other leading organizations in this coordinated effort, ETSA has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering constructive collaboration in addressing EU institutions while advocating for practical timelines that support the development of a robust, balanced regulatory framework for the textile sector.
