Standards on safety requirements for laundry machinery

Following recent fatal accidents in CBWs in the UK, the TSA is proposing to revise the ISO 10472 suite of technical standards for safety requirements for laundry machinery. This five-part standard (common aspects, washer extractors, tunnel washers, dryers and ironers) defines safety requirements for machinery designers and is a tool to enable them to comply with the EU Machinery Directive. The TSA wishes to (1) include requirements from the TSA industry code on continuous tunnel washers, (2) further update the standard, and (3) clarify manufacturers’ and operators’ responsibilities in terms of use, maintenance and compatibility of different types of equipment falling under different parts of the standard. This matter will be tabled at the next ETSA meeting on laundry technology on 1-2 October.
